With the first days of May already behind us, spring is popping out all over Medford and Southern Oregon with beautiful blooms and green leaves on most of the trees and bushes. While the calendar may say spring, the locals, including all of us here at the Rogue Regency Inn, are noticing weather far more like summer. Residents all over the Rogue Valley are starting to make weekend trips out to the rivers for swimming and fishing. Rafting and kayaking trips have begun for the season, and more and more outdoor enthusiasts are visiting all the wild and scenic places in Southern Oregon, every day. It is truly Summer Vacation in the Rogue Valley!
Of course a Rogue Valley Summer Vacation means more than another school year coming to an end. It comes with extended hours in the tasting rooms of many wineries and vineyards. It means seasonal openings of many roads and facilities in the state and national parks as well as on Forest Service and BLM land. In about six weeks, Crater Lake will start to see its standard summer number of several hundred visitors per day, and activities from hiking to off-roading will become weekend staples all over Southern Oregon. And whether you’re planning to take a day trip to Crater Lake National Park or book a rafting or jet boat tour on the Rogue River (or both!), Rogue Regency Inn & Suites makes a great home base for your summer vacation. We also offer a central location and far more amenities than the remote lodging options available in and around the county, state and national parks.
Now, to be sure, you don’t need to be an outdoorsman to enjoy a Rogue Valley Summer Vacation. Foodies as well as wine, beer and spirits enthusiasts can taste to their hearts’ (and palettes’!) content in tasting rooms all over Medford and the Rogue Valley. From wineries to chocolatiers to artisan cheese makers, our valley’s bounty seems endless with something for everyone. In Gold Hill, for instance, Del Rio Vineyards grows more grapes than any other local winery, their rows of vines stretching nearly to the tops of the foothills. In nearby Historic Downtown Jacksonville, specialty shops of all types line the streets of downtown, overflowing with artisan food, boutique and handmade clothing and other items. If you’d rather have it all arranged for you, check out our Hotel Specials page to see more than one stay-and-play package available including an overnight guest room and transportation to and from your tasting experiences. Take us up on one of these offers or plan your own itinerary. Either way, every summer day feels like a celebration in Southern Oregon
And speaking of celebrations, festivals, expos and revelry of all types color the weeks of summer here. This year, Memorial Day weekend will mark the 56th Annual Boatnik Celebration just down the road in Grants Pass. The Boatnik parade, jet boat races on the Rogue River and traditional carnival and midway in Riverside Park begin on family night (Thursday, May 21st) and continue through Monday. For the Fourth of July, the Jackson County Expo is the place to be for its annual Red, White & Boom celebration featuring music, food, spirits and fireworks as well as several other special features at the Expo’s amphitheater. Then in August, the World of Wine Festival in Jacksonville will feature tastings, taster’s seminars, a vintner’s dinner, charity auction, salmon bake and much, much more between Monday the 17th and Sunday the 23rd. And these three events are really just the smallest sampling of what’s been planned for 2015 Summer Vacation in the Rogue Valley.
